![]() ![]() Or there are other cool, exotic species out there that are easier to tame. (Also no, you can't keep an elephant inside). So get a dog or cat, or if you're looking for something exotic maybe an elephant (if you're rich). And i doubt they will ever be domesticated because they offer little benefit compared to other animals and are extremely hard to maintain. They're too aggressive when they grow up. As much as i wish these creatures were domesticated, they're not. You might end up dying one day and the chimp alongside you for killing you and thats no fun. If ya can't, then please don't get a chimp. If you're a rich person with swaths of money that can invest in a large amount of land where you can keep, feed, and enrich multiple chimps then go ahead and have fun (at your own physical risk). You can't keep em inside, can you keep a human inside? No! Also once they grow up they'll become aggressive and could possibly kill you. If you're gonna get one it ain't casual dudes. Listen guys I se a lot of yall commenting above about keeping a chimpanzee as a pet casually. In captivity, chimpanzees can live into their sixties. The gestation period is about eight months. Female chimpanzees reproduce every three or four years, but the mother and child remain together for at least seven years. Breeding ChimpanzeesĬhimpanzees reach sexual maturity between 10 and 13 years old. They can be taught sign language, can learn to play games, and master various tricks. Chimpanzees are used to hunting for their food so seeds, nuts, and raisins that are scattered in the grass or ground cover of their enclosure will force them to seek out their treats, occupy the animal for hours. Chimpanzee in CaptivityĬhimpanzees are intelligent and active and require a lot of enrichment. They should be fed small portions several times a day rather than one large meal because this more closely mimics their eating habits in the wild. In the wild, chimpanzees spend six to eight hours a day foraging for food. ![]() Chimpanzee DietĬhimpanzees are omnivores and will eat insects, eggs, meat, birds, as well as honey, fruit, and vegetables. Additionally, the enclosure should protect the animals from extreme weather conditions. Chimpanzees like to nest in trees and swing from branches so they do well if they have trees, swings, or play equipment in their enclosures. Grass or other plant material should cover the floor. The pen should have an enclosed top to prevent the animal from escaping. Dogs are intelligent, cats are intelligent, birds are intelligent but they can be trained so why not monkeys? I don't agree with capturing a baby in the wild for the same reason I don't agree with capturing a bird in the wild but domestically breed, why not? People are intelligent but I trained two kids.Chimpanzees are highly social animals and should be kept with other chimpanzees. I am real turned off about all the people saying don't get a monkey because they are intelligent. I know very little about Chimps and I will not get one as a pet but I am thinking about getting a monkey, maybe a marmoset or a spider monkey but I feel that in the right hands a chimp could be trained just like any other animal. I also have a McCall, they have been known to remove fingers. They will defend their owners and they are some of the most loving dogs out there. They have been known to do as much damage as a Chimp and even kill people but they are also some of the most defensive dogs you can get. Have you ever seen the aftermath of a Pit Bull attack. ![]()
